A 44-year-old blogger has been detained for allegedly posting on the Internet doctored pictures of Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat being sodomised by Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
It is learnt that the man had turned himself in at the Permas Jaya police station yesterday.
Kelantan PAS Security Committee secretary Major (Rtd) Mohamad Ibrahim had lodged a report over the matter at the district police headquarters in Pengkalan Chepa, Kelan-tan on Monday, after discovering the pictures on the Internet last Saturday.
Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff confirmed the arrest.
“The suspect has been handed over to the Kelantan commercial crime unit for further investigations.
“The case is classified under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he said.
The pictures posted on the Internet caused a stir among PAS leaders and supporters in Kelantan.
A local daily even quoted Nik Abdul Aziz as saying that the allegations were shocking and that the blogger had misused his talent.
This is the second blogger arrested over offensive postings on the Internet this year.
On Jan 29, Khairul Nizam Abdul Ghani known as Aduka Taruna from Rumah Rakyat Pancor in Paroi, Negri Sembilan, was charged at the Seremban Sessions Court for posting derogatory remarks of the late Sultan of Johor Sultan Iskandar ibni Almarhum Sultan Ismail on his blog.
He was accused of improper use of network facilities or a network service as provided for under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588).
